Standard Tuning:
Intro: F-C-Dm-Am-B-F-C x2
F C Dm Am
A lonely road, crossed another cold state line
B F C
Miles away from those I love purpose hard to find
F C Dm Am
While I recall all the words you spoke to me
B F
Can't help but wish that I was there
C
Back where I'd love to be, oh yeah
F C Dm C
Dear God the only thing I ask of you is
B F
to hold her when I'm not around,
C
when I'm much too far away
F C Dm C
We all need that person who can be true to you
B F
But I left her when I found her
C
And now I wish I'd stayed
B C
'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired
Am Dm C B
I'm missing you again oh no
F
Once again
F C Dm Am
There's nothing here for me on this barren road
B F
There's no one here while the city sleeps
C
and all the shops are closed
F C Dm Am
Can't help but think of the times I've had with you
B F C
Pictures and some memories will have to help me through, oh yeah
F C Dm C
Dear God the only thing I ask of you is
B F
to hold her when I'm not around,
C
when I'm much too far away
F C Dm C
We all need that person who can be true to you
B F
I left her when I found her
C
And now I wish I'd stayed
B C
'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired
Am Dm C B
I'm missing you again oh no
F
Once again
Dm C#/Dm B F
Some search, never finding a way
Dm C#/Dm B F
Before long, they waste away
Dm C#/Dm B F
I found you, something told me to stay
Dm C#/Dm B F
I gave in, to selfish ways
Gm C
And how I miss someone to hold
when hope begins to fade…
F C Dm Am
A lonely road, crossed another cold state line
B F C
Miles away from those I love purpose hard to find
F C Dm C
Dear God the only thing I ask of you is
B F
to hold her when I'm not around,
C
when I'm much too far away

We all need the person who can be true to you

I left her when I found her

Hmm. Not to be a dick, but uh... where's "Dear God"? The song has a lot of hammer-on's and pull-off's to start with... I didn't even see one that I noticed... Also, I don't even recognize this song being played... and I've heard "Dear God" like a hundred and twelve times.
As said, not trying to be a troll but I seriously cannot hear "Dear God" in the guitar-work as hard as I try...
For anyone who wants to watch the official video, BTW... which does show Brian and Zacky playing the chords/riffs. I do realize that the steel lap guitar (the slide and swell effect) is not played by either them, it was done by a guest artist, which it shows on the version of this album that comes with the bonus DVD (which is awesome if you don't have it... make sure you get that version for a couple extra bucks... it'll probably call the DVD "MVI content" or something. Multimedia Video Interaction? I made that acronym up completely, I'll go ahead and just admit that. LOL.
EDIT: OK, after listening to it again, I can hear it. It begins pretty much right under where the vocal melody starts. This is just the "backing" or "rhythm", "widening/thickening" guitar track... not the main/prominent one. My apologies. I guess I have always been so focused on the lead acoustic riff that I neglected to hear the ancillary track. What about posting the lead guitar tutorial? No-- the banjo track! Haha... that'd be cool to watch at least... I feel pretty stupid now, I can clearly and obviously hear it now; to be fair I haven't slept in a couple of days. My brain is close to dead... or it may have just passed away, actually... LOL
